Spring in Woodland

Sunday May 5, 2024  When we first considered moving to Woodland, I had a few friends who said “You’ll hate it there! You have to wait 2 extra weeks for spring!”  That comparison was in reference to Salt Lake City and it’s true, flowers and trees having been blooming there for weeks.  But I was determined to find grass pastures for the alpacas and I found it in Woodland so we sold our property in Salt lake County and moved to this higher elevation. Where winter does seem to hang on forever!  lol. But it’s also cooler in the heat of summer, green for most of summer and it was the perfect place to raise alpacas. Now that they are gone, we are thinking about a warmer place to sit our bones.  As the weather guys are predicting the snow for this weekend in feet rather than inches. oy

How’s Toothless? Well I’ll tell ya. He has become the friendliest cat we’ve ever had here! Farmer Ed said yesterday he seems more like a dog than a cat. I am quite fond of the little guy and would love for him to stay here, but I wonder if he wouldn’t be happier in a home where he could interact with people all day long. Just a thought for now.

And best of all the Orioles are back!  I’ve had my oranges and grape jelly out for a few days and we’ve realized we now have a raccoon problem around the house. Those big white dogs and their nighttime barking really did keep things in order here. My outside cameras showed me a raccoon devouring the oranges and eating every bit of grape jelly in the cup that was set up for the Orioles. So now I have to bring the bird food in at night and put it out again in the morning, until we figure a way to keep the raccoons out of the yard. The house dogs were snoring on their pillows while the raccoons were having a party on the deck!

Speaking of the white dogs, I heard from the new owner that Blue endured his first thunderstorm in Minnesota and did very well. She sent me a photo that brought me to tears. I do miss those dogs so much. 😭

I hope you’re enjoying spring where ever you happen to be, and if it’s around here, don’t put those snow shovels away yet!  And of course, thanks for checking in.

Photos of the day:  Sweet Toothless LOVES people so much!

Cloudy skies to the west means rain and snow is on the way.

Frosted pastures this week.

Blue says “I did good Mom!”  😭

Love these birds!  They know the snow won’t last forever.  #BullocksOriole

This lucky pup has a covered porch to enjoy al the weather. (Belle was behind me)

OH BLUE! Thank you very much for sharing those cool pictures! How often do you hear from the Minnestoans? How is Benji? and the rest?

Hi Jill! I get photos and updates from time to time, I wish I could check in with them every day. But for the mental health of all concerned, I need to keep singing the song “let it go!”. I think about them all every single day, but I have to let them all live their new life. I’m grateful for any updates they send me and for now that has to be enough.

Thanks Sunny! I think Toothless showed up at the perfect time for me. And I will always miss Blue and Juno. As well as all the big white dogs we lost to the rainbow bridge. But life goes on, right?

Lovely photos. You are in a beautiful area! Toothless is a heart-breaker in every good sense of the word! What a face! The change he has made in a short time is amazing! And dear Blue….he looks happy, bright-eyed, healthy and very well taken care of! That was so reassuring! Linda, you are never alone when you shed tears. We all grew to love your animals…how could we not? Your photos and writings brought them all up close to all. I’m so grateful for the opportunity of being able to follow all your adventures. Thank you for always making me smile, even on the bad news days!
