A wild day

Thursday April 18, 2024  Toothless is doing fine after his neuter and our newest grandson has arrived!  We got the call on Tuesday to come to the hospital so off we went knowing that things were calm at the ranch. Three dogs were snoozing in the house, complete with an XL dog door to get out as needed and all cats were content in their cat house, let’s go have a baby! She was dilated to 10 cm. when we arrived and I was surprised and thrilled when she asked me to stay in the delivery room with her. Things got scary for a while as baby’s hear rate was not tolerating the pushes, so forceps were used to help. Thank to skilled nurses and the doctor, he arrived quickly with one last push. What a moment to remember. Did you know you can smile and cry at the same time?

We spent most of the day at the hospital and tried to be home before dark to feed cats and dogs. We are keeping Cassie, the big while dog that belongs to our kids, here while they welcome their new son into the world. Imagine our horror when she escaped out the garage door and bolted for the river right at dark!

Nooooo! The more I called her name the more she ran. Oh we remembered this game with Blue!  But Cassie doesn’t know this area, the river is running fast and as you might recall we have neighbors who threaten to shoot stray dogs.

I could not imagine telling either one of them that I lost their precious dog on the day their son was born. So we in our exhausted state, walked and drove all over Woodland looking for her. We had a few sightings, but as we approached her, she would run further. It brought back so many memories of chasing our dogs like that when they climbed over the fences that had been buried in snow.

I told Ed we need to just come home and wait to see if she’ll come home before we both have heart attacks. And as soon as we did that she showed up at the front gate! I was never so happy to see a big white dog in my life. To say I slept well that night is an understatement!  All’s well that ends well but sheesh that was a rough one!  She’s back home in Boulder now and Farmer Ed and I have almost fully recovered. 😉

Life is good, we have much to be grateful for and as always thanks for checking in.

Wow, your grandson looks so good for just being born! Little cutie, probably wondering what the heck just happened! And a bratty dog. don’t they just love to play ‘catch me if you can’. Congratulation on the new grandchild and I’m glad everything turned out well.

Thanks Lana! I seem to remember my newborns looking a bit more squished and he does look pretty good for brand spankin new!
And if I never have to play ‘catch me if you can’ for the rest of my life that will be just fine!

Yay for babies fresh from heaven! I’ve been checking your blog to see a picture of the new little one. He’s adorable. I’m glad that everything turned out well with his birth and the doggie escapades. Congrats Grandma on the new little one!

Congratulations!! What a cutie pie. Oh Cassie! What a stinky😂
I had my first great-grandson born on February 16th 💜 (actually my 1st grandchild, but we only seem to have boys in Jeremy’s family) As you are very aware of the complete joy they bring, grandparenting is the BEST!

Thanks Linda! We thought so too! They hadn’t even put the “goop” in his eyes yet. He looked more squinty after that.

A darling new little hoomin’ bean! And a big white dog with a sense of humor…sort of! Congrats on your little grandson…he is a looker!

Thanks Brenda. I never thought of that as a sense of humor, but you’re probably right. I’ll have to find a way to let her know I don’t think it’s funny. ha
