April at BMR

Friday, April 5, 2024  Hard to believe, but we sat out on the front porch for happy hour this week! It was so lovely, listening to the Sandhill cranes, Redwing blackbirds, and even our frogs have started singing in the north pasture. Then I did something I haven’t attempted since last October when the last alpaca left. I walked the pastures. It’s been so hard for me to see the empty barns and grasses growing in the pastures with no one to nibble on them, but I knew I had to face it. Weird, it’s just weird.  The vole damage is significant but not as bad as we feared. It still hurts my heart to see the emptiness here, but I have so much to be grateful for I try not to dwell on what’s missing.

And how does it happen that a small black terrified flash of feline fur turned into a purring attention craving kitty? It’s almost comical – Toothless, (who now has a nickname – Toots) is now the friendliest cat on the property. Go figure!  And since he is now my official BFF and I pick him up every time I’m out there I figured it’s time to get the neutering done.  Shhhh! Don’t tell him!  I noticed a low cost cat neutering option in our county where they will come and pick up your animal, take it to a clinic, do the neutering and deliver it back home for a very reasonable price. But I thought of the added stress of being transported and I decided to go with my regular mobile vet who will come here and take care of him inside his magic veterinary van that will be parked right in our driveway. We have an April 15 date set and I’ll be glad when it’s over and done.

Winter returns this weekend with 2 inches of snow predicted for Saturday. Oh joy. It will keep us busy as we wait for the arrival of out newest grandson, due this month!  Happy Friday and thanks for checking in!

Photos: Greening up just a bit. Check back in a few weeks, it will be so green! It will also be white again before it turns green!

Last year at this time. Photo from 4/4/23.  We were beginning to think winter would never end. But Banjo loved his look out mountain.

How ’bout I sit on your lap now?    ~Toothless

Can you can hear the purring?

I have a little black panther too. Talley appeared with a clipped ear under our bird feeders hoping for an easy score. We grabbed him and he never looked back! He reminds us daily that he was NEVER a feral kitty!

      How sweet!
I always worry that these creatures who just show up will one day leave, but so far they have all chosen to stay. I guess once they know they have a guaranteed meal, it’s an easy decision! ha
      Have a good weekend Gigi!

My heart will always go out to you for making that right, but heart wrenching decision. You made a personal sacrifice in the best interests of all your beloved critters. So much admiration going your way. I love the Toothless story! Who knew he might be won over with patience? You!!♥️

Awww, thanks for the comment Brenda.
I did try to visualize him purring in my lap when he first arrived but it does seem like little miracle that it actually happened!

Toothless looks magical💜 BMR is a magical place and I believe he knew that which attracted him there.

Thanks Sunny! I guess it was just a matter of time before a magical black cat showed up here, right? ✨
