What a difference!

Thursday, March 21, 2024  What a difference a year can make. I was looking at photos of our last winter and wondering how we got thought it when I saw this one dated 3/21/23. The barn yard was buried, most gates were inoperable, the white dogs were still confined to the garage because they could step over any fencing that we had and we were demoralized. It was probably on a day that looked just about like this when I realized we couldn’t keep going, caring for all the animals at our ages in winters like this.

Winter of 2024 has had plenty of snow, but spring is looking more springlike. More snow is headed our way for the weekend, but we’re no where near the levels we saw last year.

In other news it seems the neighborhood cats have heard that there is a feline buffet offered most days at Blue Moon Ranch. I’ve seen at least 7 different cats in the past week. Oy. Some are feral, some look too chunky to be feral. One was sleeping on a chair in the garage it looked at me incredulously when I asked him to move. lol  As it gets warmer, most of the cats are out hunting and last night I saw only Toothless (he’s my buddy now) and Garbo, our old lady cat, when I went out to offer an evening meal and remove all bowls before the raccoons and skunks get wind of the buffet.  The boy cats, Odin and Bogart were out catching the voles and mice that have no more snow to hide under.  They’ll be back when they get hungry or cold. And I will be happy to see them when they show up.

I hope you’re enjoying some spring weather wherever you are and as always thanks for checking in.

And today, March 21, 2024

One of the neighborhood cats who likes to come here for snacks now. A feral cat would not let me get this close for a photo I think.

Well….we never go to compose a children’s book about Blue’s adventures, how about a book about the adventures of Toothless??

Great pictures Linda, Good luck with Toothless…I was sad to see the Alpaca’s re homed but I am glad you and Farmer Ed are doing Great. AND…I hate for the snow to leave us until NEXT YEAR!

No one was sadder than me to have to rehome my beloved animals. But last winter was a spirit breaker. I’ve always loved snow – until it tried to paralyze us. It was a challenge I couldn’t risk taking again. 😞
Toothless is a fun distraction. It’s fun watching him learn that people can be nice.
