Out and about and a mystery in the pastures

Wednesday, December 13, 2023  Hi friends!  I’m just back from a sweet trip to DC to visit 4 of my grandkids and their parents of course. Unfortunately the only thing I brought home with me was a head cold.  ugh. I think I’m just not used to being in crowds. We drove to Baltimore to see a German Christmas Market and that was so fun!  But crowded! I definitely prefer the traffic around Woodland to what I saw between Baltimore and DC.  But the kids got to see Santa and my son loves wearing hats (like his mama) so he donned his top hat for the occasion and we all had a grand time.  🎩

Farmer Ed and the dogs were so happy to see me when I returned home. There has been some strange activity in the pastures while I was away. I’ll include a photo below and please tell me if you have any ideas what it might be.

It’s good to be home and honestly it’s the first time I’ve been grateful not to have to go out for alpaca chores, this head cold has left me with energy below zero and I’m enjoying that I can just rest. Baby steps!

Enjoy the season and thanks for checking in.

Photos of the day:  What in the world made those long solid marks?  Snow snakes? 😂

Aren’t they cute?  The youngest one has my blue eyes!  Both his parents are brown eyed.  ❤️

Family portrait by the tree.

Strolling at the German Christmas Market  The top hat made it easy for me to find him!

Til next time DC.

Lovely family pics! Those marks are really strange. Do you have a camera to put out that views the pasture? What a mystery!!

There is a cam that faces that pasture, but I don’t think it will capture enough light at night to see anything. But that’s a good idea, and I will check!

How big are the tracks? A muskrat or a skunk will leave tracks like this, but the lines would normally follow the footprints. Could it be a predator carrying something that is dragging? The other possibility is the footprints are tracks and the lines are from kicked up snow that rolled and gathered, but I don’t see clumps of snow at one end that would confirm that.

Thanks Kim. We do have both skunks and muskrats, the skunks do wander but the muskrats most often stay by the creek. Ed took the photo so I’m not sure what size they are. I’ll go out to investigate in a little bit. I suggested the dragging idea but in some places, the lines just appear out of nowhere. Starting to wonder if it could be something under the ground.

I think ermine because it seems low to the ground and dragging a tail and the tracks are all in one line.

Thanks, We have had ermine in the barn (before Chief told them to get out!) But in some places there are no foot prints at all, just the line. I’ll go out soon and get more photos.
