Road trippin’

Thursday November 9, 2023  I love hand thrown pottery and I always have.  There is a local potter about 2 hours from here that I decided to visit. Actually I’ve been wanting to go there for years but the timing never worked out.  It was a perfect day for a road trip and off I went. I saw fields dotted with sheep, horses, goats and cattle and it was a most peaceful drive. Often I was the only car on the road. In a few hours I arrived at my destinations, and Joe the Potter was there to greet me. I had ordered a bread baker from him and he knew I was coming.  After a bit of shopping, I texted Farmer Ed and told him I was on my way home. I always use Google Maps to find my way anywhere and just then my maps told me the road I needed to take home was closed.  What?  I was just on that road an hour ago. But the phone was right, the road was closed and lucky for me my phone also knew an alternate way home. It did add an hour but it was another beautiful drive so I didn’t mind.

This is part of the reason my online store isn’t finished yet and there are still fleeces piled up waiting for me in the garage, but I have come to realize I must take care of my own mental heath first. 😁

If you live in Utah, a trip to Horseshoe Mountain Pottery in Spring City might be worth your time. Check their hours, or call to see if someone will be there.  And use Google Maps.

Destination … arrived!

The snow was only in the mountains, not on the roads.

Morning coffee tastes better in a hand thrown mug.  Thanks Joe!

We have taken road trips up to spring City to purchase pottery from Joe! That is the coolest little funky town and we love the pottery we have purchased from them

What a fun trip and so good for the soul. I thought you might share a picture of your bread baker!! I’d love to see it.

I love reading your posts and seeing your beautiful photography. It sounds like I need to have a little road trip myself. Joe’s place looks fun and I totally agree with you about hand thrown pottery. I have quite the collection myself. Another fun potter visit is in SLC. Have you heard of Ben Behunin? He’s decorated his house with his homemade tiles etc and does house tours periodically. His creations are quirky and fun. He has a store in his backyard. He also writes books which I really enjoy. His “Niederbipp” series is one of my faves. Check out his website http://www.potterboy.com.

Thanks Jen! I was not aware of this potter but I love his website. It’s very close to my daughter’s home in SLC so it would be easy to plan a visit there too. I appreciate the link!
