Evolving

Monday October 16, 2023  Slowly but surely things are evolving to a new way. I saw wild turkeys just outside the barn this weekend and heard coyotes getting more comfortable around here at night.  I do wonder who might decide that big empty barn would be a nice place to spend the winter.  I still have the cams on and can see any activity so I’ll be sure to let you know.  I am also going through the 2023 bags of fleeces to get them ready for processing. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about that activity but it’s been good. As I touch Benji’s fleece I remember all the parts of our little Benji that I loved. And so it goes with each bag that I open.  And yes I will treasure these fleeces when I get them back in roving or yarn.

I have weepy days and good days. It’s a huge adjustment and it will take time. Thanks for checking in.

Photos of the day: Can you see the wild turkeys?  They moved over to the fence line by the time I got my camera,

Gracie’s fleece was so lovely this year!

Close up of Gracie. I think I’ll spin this into something for a special baby on the way. More on that later.

Barn cat Bogart has claimed one of the dog beds.   😂

I found my hawthorn trees on the new property covered in healthy berries this year!  I hear bears like them too.  Oh my.

That fleece is beautiful! I hope you keep some of the yarn/roving that comes back, though I’m sure you could sell it all. New property? Are you moving?

I have a feeling I’ll want to hold on to a lot of the 2023 fleeces. I’m planning mostly roving so I can spin and enjoy them for as long as possible.

New property? That is the name we gave to the 4 acres our son bought a few years ago next to our original property. He did that to be sure no one would develop it. The snows of 2023 knocked down some of the fencing so we never let the alpacas or dogs on it this past summer. But it was nice to walk over there to check things out now that we don’t have to worry about escaping pups or alpacas.

Moving? Maybe. But it will be a slow transition if we do. We’re looking but haven’t found anything that is perfect just yet. The ranch will stay in our family. So there is no rush.

Oh, I’m happy to hear the ranch will stay in the family. It is such a beautiful place.
