Friday, May 12, 2023 Visitors often ask me how I can remember all the alpacas’ names. It’s really not that hard if you’re here every day. But also each one has a story, and that is what i remember. The handsome bow picture below is Rowdy. Rowdy means ‘causing a great disturbance’. No he’s not a rabble rowser at all, he’s a sweet boy who loves to eat from my hand. But his birth did cause quite a disturbance. It was actually a textbook birth, but he made us wait 399 days to see his appearance! Normal alpaca gestation is 345 days. It was the first and only alpaca pregnancy where I used a drug to induce labor. I’m much more of a let nature take it’s course kind of gal, but this pregnancy was going on far too long. And we did have a happy ending, but that is how he got his name! Happy Friday!

Awww, sweet comment. We thought for sure he was in backwards or upside down so decided to force the ‘exit’ when we could have a vet on hand. We were so relieved when he came out just fine.
