Missing the babies

Sunday, May 7, 2023  The barn is clean enough for now, there is some leftover hay on the floor but that will be used for sleeping on when the nights get cold until just before shearing when we’ll do a serious sweep out. Thanks Beth for showing up just at the time I needed a little pitchfork help!

So now I’m missing the babies. It would be time to start watching in earnest for those belly kicks. But each year before we’d make breeding decisions, I’d ask my self…”Are you prepared to stay close to home all summer?  Are you prepared to deal with a bottle fed baby and lose many night’s sleep?  Are you prepared to deal with a dystocia and do you remember how to correct the baby’s position if it’s coming out all wrong? And do you really think we need to add more alpacas to the herd?”  I know the problems might never arise, but best to be prepared if they do, because I know to well that they might. And unless I could answer yes to all questions, we didn’t allow any breeding. So I will have a more peaceful summer but I do miss the babies! The video below is from 2021 and that is baby Roman kicking inside his mama.  Enjoy and Happy Sunday!

Photo of the day: Watch the bottom of her belly, that’s where his little feet were.
