Dining in

Friday, April 21, 2023 The back half of the big barn is reserved for eating and sleeping, and none of the alpacas will poop there. The front gets plenty of that action.  The leftover hay becomes bedding and eventually it will be added to the compost with what is in the front of the barn. A perfect ratio for compost of 60% green and 40% brown. (green is the beans, brown is the hay)  So I don’t really consider this routine wasteful.  The beans can be used without composting but if it’s going to sit for a while I like the added hay in there to help it decompose.  Yesterday the snow and wind was a bit unpleasant so I fed some hay in the back of the barn and many of the alpacas enjoyed eating back there.  I think watching alpacas eat is a great way to lower blood pressure so I’ll share the video with you below. Have a great weekend!  Happy Friday!

Photo of the day:  Can you see Juno enjoying a nap in there as the girls chowed down?
