They’re back

Thursday, March 30, 2023  I was surprised to see a lonely sandhill crane standing in the field near Blue Moon Ranch yesterday. I have been hearing them call as they fly overhead and because of our very snowy landscape they seemed to be arriving early. But actually they’re right on time.  I do hope they figure a way to find food in the deep snow.   Their call is a most welcome sound these days and I’m glad they’re back!  Have a good Thursday!

Photo of the day: Last year they had more grass to land on.

I love the call of the sandhill cranes. My house is along one of their migratory routes. I often hear them before seeing them. Jasper-Pulaski Wildlife area is one of their stopovers. They arrive by the thousands while going both north for the summer and south for the winter. It is an incredible sight to behold. And noisy too!

    Enjoy!
