Summer photos day 4

Wednesday, March 1, 2023  Usually March 1 signals the end of hard winter and the beginning of looking forward to spring. Somehow I don’t feel that this year.  It could be that it’s snowing, and we are still under a winter storm warning. Or it could be that we still have guardian dogs confined in the garage because our fencing has disappeared under deep snow. Today Farmer Ed will put his snow shoes on and see how much progress can be made fixing the hot wire fence around the property. I’ve been sitting in the garage with the guardian dogs, taking them out for tiny walks but the snow is too deep to go very far. Yesterday I heard bottles crashing and I found blue standing on the chest freezer knocking off my bottle collection trying to see if he could get through that window.  ugh  They need to be out and back to work but they absolutely cannot find a way off the property. The situation is far from ideal but we have to keep them alive. Too many neighbors have guns and like to use them.

So let’s look at our wonderful picture of summer at Blue Moon Ranch for today. The babies, Ruthie and Benji look to be about a week old, that grass is so green and I seriously did not even Photoshop out any poop piles! That beautiful green carpet is out there somewhere and we’ll see it again someday.  Happy Wednesday!

Photo of the day: Ruthie, Mama Ava and wee Benji So green, no snow in sight!

We had chronic problems years ago with our livestock guardian Biff, an Akbash. He felt that his territory included the whole of Foss Mountain. Our town and State has leash laws, but luckily the town mostly looked the other way as long as nobody complained. And we have dog-loving neighbors and the hikers on the mountain usually like dogs too. It must be very scary if you have neighbors that would shoot an LGD. And boy, that kind of dog does not like being enclosed inside. You have my sympathy. Hope it is temporary and they can go back to work soon.

Linda, I hope this difficult situation turns around and soon! Working this beautiful ranch is hard work when conditions are good, so all of these extra challenges must be overwhelming! My thoughts, and prayers, are with you and Farmer Ed… and all the critters we’ve come to love, too. You always manage to put a positive spin on things, no matter what… This winter has surely put that good quality to the test! Hang on….Spring is around the corner!

Thanks Brenda. We’re working on fencing today, the goal now is to get the dogs out of the garage where they are very unhappy and back to the alpacas. A little melting would be so nice.
