Dog tales 🐾

Sunday, February 5, 2023  For a really fun day at the ranch try chasing dogs through 3 feet of deep snow with a hard crusty layer of ice on top. Oh yeah. We have been surprised that Blue and Juno have not tried to walk over the shrinking fences so far this winter. But now we know that’s because they hadn’t seen their favorite gentle boy on Lower River Road. ugh. Farmer Ed and the gentle boy were surveying fencing damage from the snow plows pushing tons of snow over the perimeter fencing. And the guardian dogs wanted to be included in this event.  ugh.  Blue has enormous respect for the nasty white wire, he remembers clearly how much it hurt. But to Juno it’s a piece of string. It was hot, but hot wire that touches snow or any fallen branches etc. will stop working. Blue will not take a chance, and he watched with amazement and deep respect as his girlfriend bit the nasty wire in half!  What a woman!  And over the fence they went. Now since they found the boy, why not have a good game of chase since there are no more fences!  ugh. The boy ran back to the house (on the road, not through the snow) grabbed 2 leashes and somehow he eventually caught them both. I watched him struggle through that deep snow, falling down a few times but I knew he could handle the task better than Farmer Ed or myself.  Then Farmer Ed re-tied the hot wire and put reinforcement panels at that gate. That might sound easy but he had to go a good distance through that 3 feet of snow just to get there!  ugh. The dogs stayed close to home base and did their barking from our side of the fence for the rest of the day. And just to be safe we kept the beloved boy in the house or in the barnyard with the guardian dogs. Eventually Juno will learn about the nasty white wire but not until we have a bit more snow melting.  Happy Sunday!
