A Christmas Story

Saturday, December 17, 2022   The wild turkeys of Woodland are having a prolific year. They seem to be everywhere. The alpacas are used to them and no longer sound the alarm call and the dogs have decide they mean no harm.  And of course I have a wild turkey Christmas story for you!  A few years ago I picked up the gentle boy before Christmas to come and do some Christmas baking with me. As we were almost to the ranch,  he spotted what was left of a wild turkey who didn’t quite cross the road quickly enough and met his demise from a car. “Stop the car!”  he shouted.   Oh dear, he wants to try to revive the dead bird, I thought.  But actually all that was left was feathers and he was thrilled! “Look at these beautiful feathers, Yaya!!  Now I can give a gift to everyone in the family!” And he carefully gathered enough for all of us. He wrapped them and gifted one to each of us Christmas morning that year.  He was more excited about the gift he had found to give than about anything he hoped to receive. ❤️ And that is the true spirit of Christmas! Happy Saturday.

Road kill is the gift that keeps giving! I keep a small shovel in my car to move off to the side of the road so the scavengers don’t meet the same demise.

The gift that keeps giving? How funny! 🤣 I imagine our magpies, who are much more prolific than the wild turkeys took care of the carcass pretty quickly. But how sweet of you to carry a shovel to save the scavengers!
