Persistence

Tuesday, September 6, 2022  Every year Farmer Ed laughs at me as I try to grow tomatoes at this altitude (6500. ft) But I cannot be stopped. I put the huge pots on my wagon and wheel them inside on cold nights and of course there is black gold from the alpacas in the soil. I water them faithfully and encourage them with kind words.  One pot is cherry tomatoes the other pot has larger tomatoes but guess what I got a handful of this weekend?  My little cherry tomatoes! Farmer Ed was not laughing as he popped a few of these sweet babies in his mouth. 😁  Of course I can buy delicious home grown tomatoes at the farmer’s market (and I do) but there is something very satisfying about having them grown right outside my door. I also have a few kohlrabis, cucumbers and banana peppers but the tomatoes are my favorites probably because it’s such a challenge. #persistence  #dontgiveup  #highaltitudetomatoes

Nice work! Ours down here in the SLC valley just won’t ripen in this heat. I think the current weather trend is benefitting you!

Beautiful little gems! I never realized you were so high up! Alpacas must really feel at home since they came from areas of high elevation. There’s nothing like home-grown tomatoes!

Thanks Lana. I hope there will be many more little gems before it gets too cold. Out altitude keep our nights really cool too so I can’t complain. And I hope it does remind the alpacas of their ancestral lands!

I have not reaped a ripened tomato this season. They grow and then darn, some varmint eats them during the night. I sometimes find half eaten fruit in the yard. Guess it wasn’t that great!

Luckily I have a friend who offers me some of hers and I am forever grateful. And you are right about the delicious taste of a freshly pick ‘mater. Nothing like it!
