Bridges and woodland creatures

Thursday, August 11, 2022 When the gentle boy was born, 12 years ago, we were building a bridge across the creek, right behind Yaya’s Yarn Barn, so we decided it would be a good idea to name the bridge after him.  And the tradition began. Now that we have 5 grandkids, they each have a bridge named after them and it does help us when we’re trying to communicate about a place.  “It’s right near Jai’s bridge” etc.

What we perhaps didn’t consider was how convenient it make it for all kinds of critters to have easy transport across the water.  If you’ve been reading the blog for the past few days you know we’ve had a few instances of something on one of the bridges. Well my trail cam showed some action last night. I saw a large spotted cat that I think was a bobcat. I also saw a racoon, and both of our male barn cats going for a nighttime bridge stroll.  But none of these match the footprints we saw that first night that came with the hissing. While I was standing on the bridge yesterday taking these photos I heard a big splash in the water, what that was I might never know. There are fish in there but it seemed like a bigger splash than a fish could make.  I might just leave the trail cam up all year! I’ll share more sightings if we have them.

Photo of the Day:  The bridge in question.   This bridge is not protected by the guardian dogs since it’s outside the perimeter fencing.

View while standing on bridge, so many hiding places!

Footprints from the first encounter. Not from the bobcat I saw last night.  Hmmmmm

I’m glad I have the trail cam set up and I think for now I will not be going out there at night! 🙄
