A girl and her Manatee

Sunday, May 15, 2022  On the day Juno arrived, Dec 12 of last year, we had a bed ready for her and a cute blue manatee stuffed dog toy.  Why a manatee?  I have no idea, probably because it was on sale at Chewy.  ha   So after the initial commotion of her arrival we settled her in her bed and gave her her manatee. I think she liked it!  Within a few minutes, Blue came into her space and took off with the manatee. Oh well, perhaps I should have bought 2 manatees.  Anyway, we never saw the manatee after that first day. Blue does love to bury his treasures so I figured that’s what had happened and we’d find it some day. Well that day was yesterday! He buried it good and deep in the big old compost pile in the north pasture.  We were piling the compost up to make room for the new pile and there it was. This manatee hibernated in old poop all winter. lol  The rest of this story is best told with photos so I’ll continue it below…..

Photo of the Day:  The missing manatee!

Other than a bit of dirt, he looked fine.

Juno was really happy to have her manatee back!

Now what I should have here is a photo of Blue burying her manatee again!  Because that is exactly what he did! But I was too far away. I did see him push the dirt over something with his nose and I was pretty sure he was sending the manatee back to hibernate longer. But Juno also saw him and proceeded to rescue her toy.  Ha!  Blue just watched her and finally decided she could have the manatee. She was pretty happy, his face tells another story.

Now when she sleeps she keeps one foot on the manatee at all times.

Blue knows it’s hers now and I think all is well.    The end.

I wish I was a writer, as I have mentioned before, there is a children’s book just dying to be written about Blue and Juno 💜💜
