Voices of spring

Saturday, May 7, 2022. Ever since we’ve lived in Woodland I’ve been fascinated by a unique spring phenomenon.  Singing frogs! (Not very common in a desert state) These amazing little creatures bury themselves in the ground in the fall, surviving extremely cold temps all winter and then in the spring they come out singing. They love the wet spots in Woodland and thrive here. And best of all if a mosquito happened to lay some eggs in the water, the frog would have a tasty snack. win win! So even though I see more snow in the forecast, I know it’s spring now because I’ve heard the frogs for weeks.  They usually stop singing as a human approaches but I got close enough to some on my walk yesterday that I captured their little froggy voices.   Now i understand this might not thrill anyone but me, but for today, you get frog sounds.  Happy Saturday!

Thank for your comment Brenda! I didn’t know if anyone besides me would find it interesting! 😁

It’s a beautiful sound, especially during the day! It seems you only hear them at night.

Thanks Sunny. We hear them all day long, but they do get louder at night. A perfect lullaby.

I love frogs! When I was a little girl we had a pool in our backyard and the frogs thought it was a good place too hibernate. Every spring we’d have to fish them out. I loved to catch them and make them little homes out of grass & mud. Such fond memories. Thanks for sharing your froggy friends with us.

We have a ‘peeper pond’ up the road from us, and wait to hear them start up. It tells us it is truly Spring. They do shut up once the dog approaches as he’s always ahead of us. But we can still hear them before he does that. (He also wades into it and gets his legs all muddy…) So you aren’t alone is appreciating those little voices!

How wonderful! Woodland is the only place I’ve ever lived that I hear frogs so it’s nice to hear stories of froggie voices in other places!
