Pasture craters

Monday, April 11, 2022  A decent winter storm is on it’s way so we spent the weekend getting as much tractor work done as we could before we’re covered in snow again.  Have you seen the “craters” that result when alpacas roll in a favorite spot for years?    They love to roll in dirt (as a way to keep themselves free of parasites) but I think they just love to do it. And the more they roll in one spot the deeper the hole gets.  They love it!  We might let them keep one or two but they had made so many that it was impossible to drive the tractor around them without tipping it. So we fixed the problem and spread some nice compost over the existing grass as well. Bring on the snow, we’re ready.

Photo of the day:  Baby Lincoln and baby Maybelline found a crater they liked a few years ago.

Great word for it! We just call them ‘roll spots’, but I like ‘craters’ better!! And don’t they just love to roll in the craters just before shearing…

Oh they do love to roll before shearing don’t they? A nice bunch of loose hay works well for that day too. lol
