Scheduling

Thursday, March 24, 2022   We have a very tentative date for shearing 2022 on June 18. Much later than I’d like, but we’ll focus on keeping them all cool until that date if we have to. And things can often change at the last minute as we’ve learned so we’re not  100% guaranteed that date.  But we’ve had several requests for tours in June so I’ll use that date as my framework to start scheduling the rest of the month once we’re open. We have several issues to consider in April and then we’ll start taking reservations once we have a plan.  One of the considerations is that the water system in Woodland is being replaced this spring which means our road and our driveway will be torn up. We need more details on that before we can make plans for open barn days, etc.  We have plenty of spring clean up to deal with for the next few weeks too. It’s all good! Happy Thursday!

I hear you about the late shearing dates. When Dick and I sheared our alpacas ourselves, we started in mid-May and did a few a day whenever we could find help. We now have a professional shearer come and have to wait til June – late June – the last few years, and I hate it. However, the benefits of getting them all done in four hours outweighs the detriment of having to spray them a lot if it is hot.
Sounds like things are getting back to normal for you regarding your farm visits. Hope the water system work gets done promptly!

Heat can be so hard on them as we know. Last June was miserable but I agree with you, hiring the pros who get it all done so quickly is the only option for us. We’ll hose them and let them stand in the cold creek as needed and lucky for us, the nights get pretty cool here.
