An unfortunate evening

Thursday, September 2, 2021  We were all awakened last night by some pretty intense barking and weird screeching in the girls’ pasture. Oh oh.  All I could see with my flashlight was Blue and Charlotte in some sort of tussle and then both dogs at the fence with more barking and hissing from the other side of the fence. The alpacas were running around in the pasture and it was upsetting because I couldn’t see what they were running from, or were they running just being excited?  But this is exactly why we have the dogs. And they actually were doing their job. Ed did come out with his shotgun and helped them because we don’t need our guardian team ripped up by any predators. It was a group of raccoons climbing over the fence going toward the barn and the dogs were having none of it. We would never intentionally harm a racoon but trespassers are not welcomed by guardian dogs, no exceptions. This was the first night time “event” since we lost Chief and now we know for sure that the guardian team we have here now will work together and eliminate any predators. They are sweet as can be to visitors but do not try to get past them if you happen to have 4 legs. Good dogs – treats for you today.
