He’s home

Tuesday, August 24, 2021  I’ve loved and lost many dogs over the years. I’ve never done the memory boxes or footprints because the memories live in my heart and I never felt the need. But here I am with leaky eyes looking at a big ceramic foot print from our boy Chief. I’ll tell you why. We were not the only ones who loved Chief, somehow he made friends of most everyone he met. We have a gentleman we use to pick up our lost animals, alpacas and dogs, to cremate them. The gentleman happened to think Chief was the coolest dog he ever met and he loved visiting with him every time he came. The day the vet was here, she called him and he said “Please don’t tell me it’s Chief” before she could say anything except where she was. When he came for Chief’s body of course I was still crying and he said, “Do you want the ashes back?”  Nope  (sobbing) “How about a footprint?”  Nope.(sobbing)  Then he said, “I’ll make a foot print, this one will be on me.” And here it is. I’ll have t find a perfect place in the barn, Chief never did want to be in the house.

It was indeed. Especially since he does this for a living, one might think he’d be a bit hardened to it all. But he was almost as upset as we were. 😭

Oh Linda, what a sweet gift! And to know his spirit will forever be in the barn overlooking his herd and his pack is a beautiful thing.
