Who’s pregnant?

Wednesday September 2, 2020  I did bring Romulus over to see the girls on Monday. I barely had him through the gate and our dear Smiley charged him, spit at him and tried to knock him off his feet!!  Poor Rom.  Yes, that is what progesterone does to a female if she’s pregnant!  Of course Smiley has a way of overdoing things anyway so this didn’t surprise me. Smiley was bred to Stetson a few weeks ago, but at the moment any male alpaca will get the same reaction if he comes near her.  Ava  (Remy’s mom) was also bred to Stetson and she wouldn’t come near Romulus. A good sign but not as emphatic as Smiley’s.  lol   Allegra ran as far away as she could (she was bred to Romulus). Ciara, our black beauty was also bred to Romulus and acted very uninterested in him. Fingers crossed on that one. Angelica (mom to Allegra and Aspen) was bred to Rom on Monday. So we will most likely have a few wee ones join the herd next summer.  But just like people, alpacas can lose their pregnancies, so we’ll have to wait and see. For now breeding is over for us, and let’s hope for healthy pregnancies.  And for you – just stay well~

I love the spit test! Sounds like it was 100% on the money. Can hardly wait for the wee ones.
