Why alpacas?

Thursday December 5, 2019  People often ask me why I raise alpacas. Am I doing it for the fleece?  Did I want an animal to keep the pastures “mowed”?  Did I need some unique lawn ornaments?  No to all of the above. I raise alpacas because of the alpaca itself. Because they are beautiful, intelligent, curious beings. Because they are excellent mothers, because they believe in community and because they have gentle souls. I saw my first alpaca in 1997 and it was love at first sight. We bought our first girl in 1998 and began our adventure with these magical creatures. To be clear, I do love the fleece and that they keep the pastures trimmed, but it’s the essence of the alpaca the grabbed me 21 years ago, and still holds my heart today.

If not alpacas, you could easily move right into elephants who possess the same attributes sans fleece!

And this is why I follow your blog! Love them! AND the way you and Ed treat all of your animals!
