Friday August 16, 2019 Ryder is 2 weeks old today and yesterday I saw him chewing cud! This is highly unusual that his stomach could be that developed at this age. However when he was a couple days old he was pestering one of the moms who spit a big spit right at him and some definitely got in his mouth. So my theory is that bit of spit (which is the rumen) seeded his gut enough to start his own rumination. It’s actually very healthy for him so he will be interesting to watch. We’re still watching Ava, but I am not that worried. Sometimes as the moms get near the end of a pregnancy they are downright miserable. But Ava looks like she could go on this way for a while <sigh>. Happy Friday!
