Three battles

Friday June 28, 2019  I like to think I work well with Mother Nature but occasionally there are challenges she tosses my way. Three that come to mind right now are #1 Magpies. #2 foxtails and #3 flies. The magpies are so very smart, they wait for me to come out with the bowls of dog food and they call all their friends to come to the ranch. Then they taunt the dogs for bits of meat from the bowls. (they do the same with the cats) I have been feeding the dogs one at a time to convince the magpies that they’ll find better food some where else and I think I might be making gains on that score.  And yesterday I hand picked many buckets of foxtail grass so those nasty little barbs will not injure the dogs or cats of alpacas. Because we don’t use any chemicals on the pasture, hand pulling is the only option. (We’ve tried the vinegar solutions with no luck.) But I think I got them all picked up!  And flies?  Well I did put the fly traps out early this year and I put DE on the bean piles every day so although there are flies, I am cutting down the numbers.  Making progress one day at a time. 🙂  Happy Friday!

Photo of the day: Charlotte supervised as I picked the nasty fox tail grasses all up. Not to worry, I checked her over for any when I was done.

The magpie talked to Jett about how hard it is finding a good meal.
