Friday, June 14, 2024 Hi friends. We’re in a holding pattern regarding the new house, the seller needs more time before she can give us occupancy and because we do have a sweet place to live right here at the ranch, we’re being very accommodating. Also, we’re nice like that! One day hopefully soon I will take you all on a tour of it but for today just a sneak peek of a magical door. This part of the house was built in 1901 and you cannot deny that this door probably holds some pretty good stories. I wonder if I can do genealogy on a house? 😉
Every time over the past year or longer that I found a house I was interested in, I would show it to Farmer Ed and he had two questions: number one, what year was it built (he did not want to inherit repairs) and number two ‘what are the taxes?’. Well, this amazing house that we are buying is older than we are 😂 and the taxes are outrageous. But honestly, he is as excited about it as I am. Moral of the story – do not believe everything you hear. Or at least do not let it change your dreams. We did have an extensive inspection done and all is well. (half of the house was added in 2015) And taxes, well, if you find a way to avoid them, please let me know!
We will most likely still have some family gatherings at the ranch so it’s a challenge to decide what to take and what to leave. So for now the holding pattern continues.
Interesting tidbit: New Mexico has an amazing history dating back to times BC. I kid you not. New Mexico is home to many complex societies that date back to a time before Europeans arrived in North America. The history of New Mexico is based on archaeological evidence, attesting to the varying cultures of humans occupying the area of New Mexico since approximately 9200 BC, with written records. There is a historical site that we love to visit in Santa Fe, touted to be the oldest home in the USA.
Also, If any of my fiber friends are interested in alpaca yarn or roving please reach out to me soon. I’m going through the fiber, and I know I have enough to last me at least two lifetimes. 😄
June is beautiful this year in Woodland, as it almost always is. We are fortunate to be here right now, but I must remember what January is like as we proceed ahead with our plans. As always, take care and thanks for checking in.
Photo of the day: The magic door. This leads from the driveway area into the gardens. We probably won’t use it much, just to keep it in its best condition. But what a sweet photo backdrop, no?
Lana
What an intriguing door! Will you be keeping the ranch or eventually selling it? It is so beautiful and would be great for livestock, like horses or another alpaca ranch!
Linda
The ranch has been sold to our son, so what happens going forward is all up to him and his family. He has no plans to sell at the moment. For the next year, the pastures need to rest, except for growing hay. We’ve had lots of people interested in leasing some of it for their animals. We shall see!

Do I see some teal in that door? 😍
Linda
Just a bit, isn’t it gorgeous?
Beth
Very much so

I love cool doors! I have a friend whose daughter is attending NYU and every time he visits New York. He takes walks around the city and the boroughs and takes pictures of all the cool doors. I am so happy for you and farmer. Ed and your next adventure in life ❤️
Linda
I love cool doors too! I have many photos of them around this house.
Thanks for your kind words. ❤️

Hi Beverly. You don’t need to have a PayPal account, just a credit card to order online. If you just fill in the blanks, it will be very easy to ship a cat mat to you for your cat. All we need is your email and your address.
Linda
Beverly, I just tried to email you and I got a message that my email address is blocked. so I hope we can resolve it here.
