Wednesday, June 5, 2024 I love taking care of the land, whether it’s encouraging dandelions to flourish, spreading the old alpacas beans to nourish the soil or helping to feed the pollinators. So when we heard about a concept for planting seeds that did not involve tiling, we were interested. Tilling can damage the soil structure but I wasn’t sure how else to get the compost spread over the bare dirt. Instead we dragged it, so the #1 problem was solved and then we were left with the planting part. This no till drill is probably old news to farmers, but it was a new concept to us who had done the old rake and hand broadcast system in the past. We found a very sweet neighbor who did all this work for us in trade for one pair of alpaca socks! 😊
We (meaning Farmer Ed) got the irrigation pumps going and we watered it all in, now we wait and cross our fingers it works.
I love tractors and will miss this part of life on the ranch. Although my knees will not miss the contortions I had to go through to climb up on ours. lol
Weather is finally warming up here, just in time to help our seeds germinate. A new doll on my workbench is almost finished. I really enjoyed working on this one. More details on her next week. As always thanks for checking in.
Photos of the day: What a beauty!

Pretty cool, huh! We sure thought so. Always learning something new!
