Lurking in the darkness is….

Sunday February 11, 2024  Super bowl party trends?  lol. Not here. I’m here to tell you how much fun I’m having with the new feral kitten who showed up.  We are making slow but steady progress.  When I would first enter the “cat house” he would panic and all his focus was on finding the nearest and quickest exit.  Oh he still isn’t going to let me near him, but he will now stay in the cat house and find a safe hiding place while he observes me. He was comfortably lounging on one of the cat mats (made of felted alpaca fiber of course) when I walked in yesterday. He jumped and hid somewhere, but I know where the the exits are and I was pretty sure he was still inside with me somewhere. It’s rather dark in there and offers many hiding places. This outbuilding was and still is a storage place for all kinds of farm things, hoses, tarps, tables, irrigation equipment and lord know what else. I thought he might be under a shelf hiding in the dark so I spoke to him there. “Hello, wee one! I’ve given you a name and we’re calling you “Toothless” for now. Not to worry, the real Toothess is a very brave Dragon called a Night Fury Dragon who is the most feared dragon of all. You are welcome to eat, drink and sleep in here for as long as you like, and I hope someday you will know I am your friend”  Yes, I did seriously talk that way to a feral kitten who might or might not have been in there. lol  I took a photo of where I thought he might be and as I expected I saw nothing but black when I looked at it.  But …. when I came inside and opened the photo in Photoshop, bringing the exposure all the way up, there he was right where I was talking to him!

Whatever my future holds, I know there will be animals because that is when I feel alive again.  Thanks Toothless for reminding me of that.  And thanks to you dear reader for checking in.

Photos of the day: You might be able to see his shadow if you have great eyesight and look real hard! Scroll down for the overexposed version.

Same photo as above, overexposed.  Hi Toothless! I promise I will not hurt you.

When I went out last night to remove all the cat food bowls, he was perched on a shelf waiting to hear what I had to say. He’s become a very good listener.

So, Toothless didn’t leave. I take that as a positive sign that he is at Blue Moon to stay!

He might take off once the snow melts and the hunting fields are more accessible. But for now I’m enjoying having him here. If possible I’d like to take him to the vet for an exam and neutering or spay. But whatever trap I’d use would most likely catch the 3 cats who live here first I’m afraid. One day at a time for now.

Oh! I love this new story that is unfolding! I always said there should have been a children’s book written about blues adventures 😁 but I will take whatever story I can get from Blue Moon ranch ❤️❤️❤️❤️

WELL <YAY!!! for you! About how old do you think toothless is? It maybe just what you need right now! Love to you and Ed.

I have no idea how old he is, he is small, but brave and quite smart and will probably be difficult to catch! I think he heard me say “neuter”. lol

So fun to see the eyes in the very dark showing that he was there and listening to you.

I’m so proud I was able to see Toothess in the first photo! I saw the eyes. I’m looking forward to your Yoothess Tales.

You must have very good eyesight Cathy. Toothless Tales! What a fun idea. Except that I haven’t seen him in two days. He could very well be out there, because the cat food is disappearing quickly, but he is also very good at hiding.
