Aug 24 update

Thursday, August 24, 2023  Just popping in with a little update. We had a lovely visit last weekend from a couple from Minnesota. I have a feeling they will be the new caregivers for the Blue Moon herd. We are working on transportation and other logistics but I feel very happy to have found this wonderful couple who is very active in 4H and will give our four-legged friends a wonderful new home. I’ll share more once I know how popular they want to be.

In other news, our rock chuck population is growing but Blue does everything he can to keep the numbers down. He even caught his own dinner yesterday. Eewwww.  I was just reading how eating fur can be an excellent cleanser for a raw fed dogs guts so I guess Blue is all clean now.  Juno just watched and respected the rule of “if you catch it you are the one who can eat it.”

The temperatures here have been delightfully cool, 50s at night and 70 during the day, I’m so grateful we are not seeing the heat that is plaguing much of the country. We are seeing rains every day lately but those who live in a desert state cannot complain about that!

Best of all the gentle boy will be staying with us until next Tuesday. Waking up early and making his lunch this morning took me back to those good ol days.

Have a good Thursday!

Photos of the day:  I finally have a wild sunflower growing in my yard!  I’ve tried scattering seeds for years and one strong plant decided to grow here. yay!

Blue ate the whole thing.  eeeewwwww.

Awesome catch, Blue! How exciting that you think you have found your herd’s next home. Keep us posted.

    Enjoy the Gentle Boy.

And finally, the sunflower, my favorite example of the Fibonacci sequence found in nature.

OK Gigi, you made me google that one. 😊 Fibonacci sequence, how fascinating! Thanks for your comments as always.

Good you have found a potential new home for the herd. I hope it works out.
Eww, for Blue’s feast! Good to know that about the fur…

Blue was definitely not interested in the lovely meal I prepared for him yesterday either. I had to try, since he’d have to watch Juno eat hers, but he said No thanks. lol
Re: the herd. Yes indeed. Purchase contract is in the works and I could not ask for better people.

Wow! What a blessing! Will Juno and Blue be going with them?

I did not know that about eating fur (for dogs ha!) I have fed my dogs raw for years and had not heard that.

I just read about fur feeding a few weeks ago. Here is the scoop: By sweeping through the digestive tract, the fur brushes away any worms or eggs that might be hiding in your dog’s system and flushes them out. Overall, the cleansing nature of the fur through your dog’s digestive system allows for better nutrient absorption for your pet.
      Still, eeewwww. lol
Yes, the plan is for the dogs to go with the herd. 😭 Coincidentally they had their livestock guardian dog passed away from old age just a few weeks ago so they are in need of protectors as well.

That is very good info – thank you.

My heart is a little weepy for you honey, however, there is always another chapter/adventure around the corner for us. But damn! We are really going to miss your blog
