Monday, June 5, 2023 Fleece bags ✔️ Noodling bags ✔️ Labels for fleeces 1 and 2 ✔️ Barn swept and clean ✔️ . Fencing is started but it’s too early to restrict alpaca movement yet, and I’m working on a meal plan. All in all we have a good start on our preparations for shearing day. Thanks mostly to Farmer Ed who meticulously cleaned out all the leftover hay from the barn and even took his shop vac into the tack area. I had to take a photo because you will almost never see it this clean again! lol Even with the daily rain, the alpacas seem to prefer to use their outside poop piles, which is much appreciated! Perhaps it’s because their long winter confinement gave them no other choice for so many months.
And for those of you in the Midwest or back east wondering where all your rain went, it’s here. Check out our forecast! ☔️ Happy Monday!
Photo of the day: Can you find Blue sleeping in his favorite spot?
They do come in to cool off when the sun makes it too warm for winter coats.
Lovely forecast for the week before shearing, eh?

OMG! You have the same rain forecast as we do! We’ve had rain for three days steady and temps in the 40’s. Today it finally got to 60. Alpacas are soaked. They loved the cool weather and stuffed themselves on wet grass. It is supposed to rain every day from Wed thru Friday and we’re shearing on Saturday too. We can lock them in on Friday, but I’m not sure they’ll dry out. Oh well, I can see the fleeces having to be spread out in the loft to dry, once they are off. Your barn is so clean!! I’m jealous.

We’re lucky in that they still run for cover if it rains even a drop. So they’ll stay dry and yes we will lock them all in on Friday evening, We had to deal with wet fleeces one year and it was not fun! Good luck with your shearing day!
