Monday, January 23, 2023 How cold is too cold? Well it was 2 below zero here this morning and all is well. Plenty of hay, deep bedding and warm water keeps the alpacas enjoying winter just fine so far. The coldest I can recall here was 23 below a few years ago and even then, we all survived. We have occasionally put a coat on an older animal but this year every one seems to be handling our winter weather just fine. The dogs coats are so thick now they often choose to sleep on the snow instead of in the warm barn. The barn cats have their warming lamps and all 3 of them sleep deeply under the warmth. We humans however prefer to be inside by the fire! But if we wear the right clothing it’s OK to enjoy our winter wonderland with the animals for a while each day. Happy Monday!
Photo of the day: Patchouli and Gemma don’t seem to mind the snow at all. We tossed a little hay outside the barn when the sun was out and these 2 continued to dine al fresco even when the snow started again.
