A crazy start to a new year.

Monday, January 2, 2023  Well what would you like to hear first, the good news or the bad news? Let’s get the bad news over with. Blue, who still had not recovered from his firework trauma, came in the house again yesterday morning and he and Banjo got into a horrible fight. Thank goodness none of the kids were near them. I foolishly tried to break it up and ended up getting a pretty serious dog bite on my hand. It all happened so fast I don’t even know which dog it was. The rest of the family was able to break up the two dogs, got Banjo in the crate and escorted Blue back to the barn. Meanwhile I was bleeding heavily and in so much pain.  One look at my hand and we knew I’d have to go to the emergency room. ugh.  On a Sunday.  On New Year’s Day.  On unplowed roads.  In a snowstorm.  ugh   My daughter and son-in-law dug their car out of the snow and we headed to Park City. Farmer Ed stayed here to deal with the dogs and reinforce the fencing with the help of the two oldest grandkids. I was seen so quickly at the ER and the nurses and doctors were all outstanding. The doctor said I was 1 millimeter away from surgery he was amazed that my tendons were intact. Numbing shots, lots of irrigation and finally stitches and wrapping.  I wont post the photo on the blog, but if you want to see it you can look here.

The good news is that I was surrounded by family who jumped in to help with an unfortunate situation. While we were at the hospital my son and daughter-in-law made a most amazing turkey dinner and the house smelled like heaven when we finally got home. They wouldn’t let me lift a finger. The other good thing is that the fencing worked and all dogs seemed to stay where they belong. I am so grateful for the family members who are here to help remind me to take the pain medicine and the antibiotics that have been prescribed. The other good news is I got a great night sleep and feel so much better today. The kids are still happy about all our snow, I think we got at least 18 inches of new white fluff.  Happy Monday!

Photo of the Day: Last night out the kitchen window….. And it’s still snowing!

Oh Linda so sorry! Glad you had extra people there to help and everything turned out well. Prayers for a speedy recovery! Hope Blue and Bango are ok too!

OMG! That is one nasty bite. I counted 10 stitches? And it had to happen on a holiday, in a snow storm. I’m so glad you had family there to help out all around. I got bitten by one of my normally docile cats when he got stuck in a kitten gate. I foolishly thought I could help him down. No stitches, but lots of blood and pain, and a long session of antibiotics. Breaking up dog fights is always tricky and the natural reaction is to try to pull them apart. Poor Blue. Looking for safety and ends up treading on someone else’s territory. I blame all of it on those dang fireworks!

I hate taking antibiotics so much, but I can’t risk infection so I’m doing it. They have silent fireworks in Italy, I wish we could have them here.
