Wednesday, December 21, 2022 Happy Winter Solstice! Today marks the office first day of winter so go ahead and enjoy the season now. 😉Even though the coldest part of winter will be coming in the next 2 months, it warms my heart to know that starting today, the sun will be up for a few seconds longer each day, signaling the start of our slow but steady march toward spring. I’m sure everyone appreciates more daylight at the end of their day but for those of us who tend to animals outside the difference is huge. And I don’t know about you but I pretty much quit when its dark. The list is still quite long for all that I need to accomplish before the family arrives, but when it’s dark it goes on the tomorrow list. But winter is for resting so I think that’s a good plan. I use my daytime hours wisely – I even got some cookies baked and Farmer Ed cleans up every mess I make while I bake or cook – is that amazing or what? Yes I am a lucky gal. So enjoy the light while it lasts today and rest in the darkness. Happy Solstice!
Photo of the day: Odin is ready to enjoy the winter at Blue Moon Ranch. Aren’t his little white feet the cutest? And there’s an upside down Christmas tree on his belly! Don’t worry, he has a warm heated bed in the barn.

Welcome winter! Cleaning out my heated bird baths to make sure they are clean and filled. Both are close to the ground so the squirrels and other wildlife can partake.

Thank you for taking care of the wildlife in your neighborhood this winter!

Oh that Odin is a beauty. That Christmas tree is perfect, even if it is upside down!! We certainly appreciate when there is more daylight at the end of the day. Sun sets here a little after 3 pm, so that means it’s already dusky when we go out for evening feed at 4:30. Love, love, love when it is light out for chores. Even though we have lights in our barns, it is still pretty dark as they are not the wattage we have in the house. Good thing alpacas see pretty good in the dark. 🙂

Oh you get darker too early! Not much we can do about it though is there? We do have lights in the animal barns but not the hay barns so it’s hard to see what we’re grabbing if we’re feeding after dark.
Odin just showed up here a few years ago. Once we convinced the dogs he was welcome here, he never left. He’s the most vocal and the most friendly of the 3 barn cats. Our grandson claims Odin is his cat and he just leaves him here since Odin chose us. ❤️
