Tuesday, December 6, 2022 Feeding alpacas their hay is the last thing we do at the end of the day. Why? No matter what the weather, alpacas will generate heat when they digest their food. So by feeding them late in the day, it will help keep them warmer in winter. But even in summer they can enjoy digesting in the cooler night time temps. Actually we try to keep the feeders with some hay in at all times, but they will all eat more when we refill the feeders, looking for the best pieces of hay. It also gives me a chance to check them all over and make sure we have 100% participation in eating.
The sun is shining brightly this morning! Finally! 🌞 We’ve had gray clouds for days and the bright skies are most welcome. Happy Tuesday!
Photo of the Day: Ramona enjoys bites of her hay in the afternoon too.
