Benjamin makes the move

Thursday, October 6, 2022  Well our sweet little Benjamin is now an official bachelor. He had just discovered that mounting his little girl friends Ruthie and Raina was fun!  So we had to put a stop to it. I’ve been dreading moving him because he was a singleton, but as you can see he doesn’t feel alone in his new private suite.  His hay wagon and water bucket are behind me in the photo and he has plenty of grass to eat in a large grassy area right next to all the big boys. Both guardian dogs accompanied him and watched until he seemed settled. I love those dogs. When I checked him last night he was munching on grass and did not appear stressed at all. From here on it’s one day at a time as we observe the interactions and eventually move him in with all the big boys, although that might not be til spring.  Yay for small victories.  Happy Thursday!

Photo of the Day: Benjamin days Hi to Ryder, one of his new roommates. This type of fencing allows for Benji to be safe as they all get to know each other with lots of sniffing.

What a great solution! I worried about poor Benjamin getting bullied by the larger and older boys. It’s tough to be the junior one in a male herd even when you are big! We had a very small boy who went to stay with our friends, and they gelded him and he stayed in with their girls. He’d had a hard start because his dam died when he was only a few months old, so that was a good solution for him. Benjamin is bigger and certainly looks happy with his new digs. Good dogs!

The whole move was so much easier on him than I thought it might be. I guess he knows he’s a boy after all and is happy to be with others like him! Those wide panel fences sure do make the introductions easier. He’s right with the big boys but totally safe.

What a beautiful way to handle that process for little Benji. And you crack me up!
