Saturday, July 16, 2022 A bit of Utah history for you: Sheep production was the dominant livestock sector in Utah at the start of the 1900s, reaching a peak of nearly three million sheep and lambs by 1930. The shepherds grazed their sheep on federal grazing land. In Utah, there are nearly 45 million acres of grazing land; 73 percent federally owned, 9 percent state owned, and 18 percent privately owned. And the shepherds needed to stay near the sheep so the sheep camp trailer was a common item back in the day. I’ve always been intrigued by these rounded little habitats but never thought I’d have one here! Thanks to a sweet neighbor who knows how many of us will be sleeping her this month, he offered use of his sheep camp trailer. I’ll have to ask him more of it’s history when I see him. Farmer Ed will take you on a tour of the inside and Juno has agreed to be the guardian of whomever sleeps inside it.
Happy Saturday!
