Whew, all done!

Sunday, June 12, 2022  Whew!  Best feeling ever is when shearing day is over and it’s all gone smoothly. The shearing crew we had this year was excellent and the animals all look great. Our volunteer helpers were wonderful as usual and we appreciate them more every year. Thank you so much! Juno and Blue were a bit in the way as we got going so we put them on the new property and closed the gate.  Well Juno was having none of that and dug her way under the gate back to her herd. Blue waited at the gate – he must have sent her as the messenger. So we let them back in the barn and Juno probably had more attention from humans than she’s had her entire life and she loved every minute of it. And then she laid on the barn floor and just watched the shearing. Blue was happy with a bone in the shade. We started at 9:15 a.m. and finished a little after 5:00 p.m.  A long hot day for all of us but the mood in the barn was consistently happy.  And we’ll do it all over again next year. Happy Sunday!

Photos of the day: Fresh fleeces on the skirting table.

Dogs got lots of love from our happy helpers!

Naked alpaca girls wondering why they can’t get back in the barn. Because we had to do the boys yet!

Awww Blue and Juno had to get in on the action! Great crew for giving them some attention. All work and no play…. Glad it was a successful day. The girls look beautiful even without their fleeces. Can’t wait to see all the finished yarns! Until next year!

Juno is very bonded to the alpacas, maybe even more than Blue who is more of a perimeter guardian. She could not stand to be away from them so I’m glad she settled into it. And our helpers loved her. Blue came in from time to time to eat the clipped toenails. I know eeeeewww, but it’s actually OK for them to eat. still, eeeeewwwww.
