Thursday, June 9, 2022 I don’t feel quite as out of control as I usually do the week before shearing. And I figured out why. Farmer Ed is is here helping! Oh he’s been here as along as I have but now that he’s retired, we’re more often on the same page as far as what needs to be done each day. And it’s good to have help especially this week! We’re pacing ourselves and today is final touches in the barn. Then for about 5 whole minutes, there won’t be any hay or poop around the barn. Until the alpacas return to the barn for shade. lol. But we’ll manage the small messes as best we can. As the heat builds we need to keep the herd in the shade until we take those heavy fleeces off. Countdown to shearing 2 days. Happy Thursday!
Photo of the Day: Our dear Romulus, packed with gorgeous fleece. We’ll be taking extra care to keep him and all the boys cool until Saturday.

I am surprised the alpaca (dog and kitty too) whisperer is not there!!

Oh he’ll be arriving tomorrow! He’ll spend the night here and be ready for shearing day on Saturday.

Oh, his fleece is so gorgeous! You have some very nice animals there. Our herd is getting old, so we don’t have that many great fleeces anymore. Though my 18 year old Moon Dance can still produce yarn-making stuff, though she’s an exception. Can’t wait to see pictures of your fleeces once they come off! (And of the naked alpacas too.)

Thanks, Lana. We purchased Romulus from a farm in Virginia a few years ago and he has been a game changer for fleeces here.
