Monday, May 23, 2022 What happens when you give a 12 year old a good camera with telephoto lens and tell him to go shoot birds? Lots of fun and some great bird shots! (We would never shoot birds with any thing other then a camera!) We are fortunate to share this space with many bird species and our grandson had fun capturing many subjects. He’s got pretty good skills I’d say and knows all their names of course. And the magic of digital photography allows us to see the results instantly and not have to wait for film to come back from the darkroom! (Remember those days?) Anyway I’ll share some of his shots with you this morning. There are so many more, of alpacas and dogs and cats and scenery but we’ll stick with birds for today. Happy Monday!
Photos of the day: The beautiful Bullocks Oriole
Pretty little Gold finch
My favorite Blue Heron made several appearances this weekend.
Little woodpecker in our front yard.
Cheerful robin
Black headed Grosbeaks share the grape jelly with the orioles
Ducks fly overhead after a dip in the creek
Hummingbirds were very hungry this weekend
The young aspen branches are perfect for their tiny little feet then they need to rest.

Beautiful photos! But he does have a great teacher!

Thanks Kathie! He said the very same thing! But I told him he’s a good student!

When I read the headline I thought “oh no!” But I found you were referring to a different kind of shooting! He has quite the eye for composition. I’ve taken a few photography workshops and having a good eye is as important as knowing settings. Also being able to edit easily with digital files is a game changer. Even the greats like Ansel Adams edited making me feel a whole lot better. Good luck to a future Nat Geo photographer!!

Thanks Gigi. We’ll never shoot birds other than with a camera, no worries!
