Thursday, April 28, 2022 The first year I had alpacas I was frantic that they might get sick. I had zero experience and no mentor. A vet back east said “if they’re chewing cud, they’re probably fine”. Not a lot to go on, but it was all I had so I became obsessed with their cud chewing. I also do a little happy dance when the babies start cud chewing because it means they are fully digesting their hay and not as dependent on mama’s milk. To this day it makes me feel like all is well when I see that rhythmic jaw movement. Happy Thursday!

I love that they do a figure eight when they chew. Cows and goats don’t do that. 🙂
