Prepping for winter

Tuesday, September 21, 2021  I’m grateful that we have all 4 seasons to enjoy here, but I will tell you that prepping for winter is the most labor intensive and starts now. There is much to be done to insure that animals comfort in the winter months and there is nothing like a big fire in the fireplace to warm us after a day outside. So we (meaning Ed) will be cutting and stacking wood until the snow stops him. Yes I am aware of air pollution from smoke and here’s a secret: our fireplace utilizes internal combustion. Once we get it going, we close the flue and the glass doors in front and it burns in a closed area. Internal or closed combustion refers to a fire burning within a sealed chamber. Closed combustion fireplaces work by regulating the airflow that goes into the fireplace. The flame uses the oxygen and wood optimally thus burning slower, hence the word slow combustion. This directly results in better heat output and much less pollution in the air. Win win. 😁
