Thursday, August 5, 2021 With birthing season coming to an end I need to refocus some energy on the fleeces. I hope to have a grand selection of yarn and roving available in the online this fall store and it all starts under the big tree in the driveway. That’s where I do the skirting which is simply removing all parts that don’t match the best of that fleece. We do a lot of skirting on shearing day but there’s much more to do before they’re ready for the mill. I spend about an hour on each fleece shaking out the dirt, finding buried bits of hay and tossing any hairy bits. I have a comfy bench under the tree, it’s in the shade and I can work at my own pace. Putting my hands in all the fleeces helps me know the animals better too.
Happy Thursday! Enjoy your day.

What a great idea to do it outside! That fleece looks luscious. Love your updates on the babies and Blue.

I always skirt the fleeces outside, they have so much dirt in them from the rolling they do. it would be a big mess indoors. This way the dirt falls right onto the driveway and no one even notices. 😁
