Thursday, June 17, 2021 I am so tired of this heat. And so glad that on Saturday we will at least be able to help the alpacas feel more comfortable. I know there are people who call shearing cruel and inhumane …. what’s cruel is to have alpacas in full fleece in the heat! Bring on the clippers! 2 more days Happy Thursday!

I can never understand why anyone thinks it is cruel to shear alpacas or sheep. Yes, alpacas don’t like being restrained, but the shearing is so fast and they are sooo happy afterward. Ours are due to be shorn next week. Very late, but at least we don’t have the awful heat you are having. Smart dog that Blue!

I agree Lana, our shearing team takes about 5 minutes per alpaca and they are so very happy to be rid of their winter coats! Good luck with your shearing next week!

I agree Lana and Linda! It is for their own good. A few weeks ago an alpaca farm in Maine broadcast their shearing on Facebook live and received horrible comments from some. I think the owner explained the procedure well, but some chose to remain in disagreement. It’s a shame that those who have no idea what they are talking about often have the loudest voices.

Isn’t that the truth. Those loud voices needed to walk in my shoes this week and watch the alpacas who can hardly breathe. (do not be alarmed, I get them in the water ASAP and in front of the fans, but it’s been a challenging week!)
