Tuesday October 27, 2020 I think we’re coming out of the deep freeze but it was a nice practice run for the months ahead. All the barn cats have found their below zero warming stations and I know which animals are less tolerant of the cold. Amazingly our 24 year old Queen Ester was just fine. Tiny little Remy was the only one who shivered, so he was the only one that needed a coat. The warm water stations are all working so we can serving tea (very warm water) on the coldest days. Guess who loved this arctic blast? Blue! He was tossing his toys in the air for joy and running around like a happy little kid. So I guess we’re ready for winter whenever it shows up again. Stay well~
Photo of the day: Little Remy and his double coats. Today I’ll remove at least the top layer!
These two don’t usually snuggle, but 5 below zero made them rethink their policy.

Your alpacas look like stuffed animals, beautifully groomed. When I see alpacas at other ranches they don’t look like yours. Why is that?

LOL I could make a wise ass comment, but honestly when we first started more than 20 years ago, quality was what we looked for. And the males we use for breeding have only gotten better as my eyes get more critical. We never groom them – an alpaca with very dense fiber will do a good shake and all loose stuff will just fall off. Think of threads per square inch on the finest carpets – it’s a similar idea with density in alpacas. Thanks for the compliment!

You’re most welcome! (I’ve known you a long time, wise-ass would have been fun LOL)
