Sunday September 27, 2020 Often when you have multiple dogs in a house you need to be like a detective at a crime scene. Belle our sweet Newfypoo was definitely in distress Friday night, crying, refusing all food and acting very uncomfortable. The other 2 dogs seemed fine. Was it something she ate? Did she twist a leg chasing Banjo? I got her to settle down and we all slept fitfully. She didn’t move much during the night and barely lifted her head to refuse the the morning biscuit they all get to start the day. No fever, but no interest in life either. What a puzzle. Until I went to give Ginger, our senior dog, her incontinence medicine and couldn’t find the bottle. Hmmmm. She gets a pill at 7 am and 7 pm. and I gave her the pm pill and I thought I put the bottle back in the mud room. Hmmmmm. We do have a counter surfing puppy here. Better check outside. Yep, there was the empty bottle, chewed off top and no pills left. Hmmmmm. Wonder if Belle helped Banjo celebrate the bounty by eating those pills? Quick check of overdose symptoms and yes we solved the crime. The counter surfing puppy Banjo, took the pills shortly after I gave Ginger her 7 pm pill. (100% my fault for not putting them out of reach!) The 2 escaped out the dog door and ate the pills in the dark back yard leaving only the empty bottle for evidence. One hour later Belle is really feeling sick and regrets her actions. If Banjo ate any, they did not seem to affect him. Belle is the alpha dog, so she might have decided not to share. I called the vet in the morning once I figured out what was making Belle sick and he said it was to late to do anything, we’d have to ride it out and hope for the best. We did have go to the vet’s office to get more pills for Ginger and I brought Belle along to see if she’d perk up. Also seemed a good idea to be at the vet’s with the sick dog if things got worse. She did refuse food all day and was not herself at all. But I am happy to report she ate a little bit this morning and seems almost back to normal!
stay well~

Awwww. So scary when our 4 legged friends are in distress. I am glad Belle is on the mend.
