Monday February 10, 2020 A question I’m frequently asked is if alpacas sleep standing up. I’d have to say no. At night the whole herd kushes down and they rest and sleep. Occasionally one or two will get up for a midnight snack of hay but generally things s l o w way down when it gets dark. And I’ve never seen any one of them stand and appear to be sleeping. Often they lay their heads on the ground for some deep sleep but only when they feel very safe and that’s usually when there are many other alpacas very close to them. They also yawn and can look very sleepy. And I bet they’ve no idea what insomnia is. 🙂
