Keeping warm below zero

Tuesday December 17, 2019  Our thermometer reads 1 below zero this morning and I see lot of cud chewing on the alpaca cam. Chewing cud helps them stay warm and it’s why I put hay out late in the day. I like to think of it as internal combustion. 😁 I also have a big bucket of very warm water (we call it tea) in the barn and that helps too. The outside dogs get cooked rice with eggs in it on top of the regular raw food meal for some extra carbs and they seem to love this weather anyway. I sleep better when I know that every animal in my care has whatever they need to be as comfortable as possible on these bitter cold nights. And we’ll have a lot colder than this coming up in the next 2 months. Yay for warm alpaca fleece too!
