Livestock guardian dogs

Saturday December 7, 2019 There has been so much media attention give to the 3 Great Pyrenees pups rescued from the mountains here, many of my friends and acquaintances are suggesting I should adopt one. If you don’t know what I’m talking about you can read about them by clicking here. First of all, because of all the media attention, there are hundreds of people who want the pups, most of whom have no idea about the breed or how big they will get! Secondly, most rescue groups will not place them in a working environment like ours because they want them to be in a home. I used to believe that all dogs should be in homes too, so I get it! But some of these dogs simply NEED to live outside and have a job. And I’m happy that we rescued two of them and gave them a job here. Charlotte WAS in a home and quite unhappy but she is thriving as a livestock guardian dog. Just yesterday a neighbor saw a huge mountain lion on the road in front of our home! We need these dogs to bark at night to keep our herd safe. Most inside dogs are not in a situation where their nighttime barking is so appreciated. Some day I might invite the rescue people here to see our happy working dogs. 🙂

Photo of the day: Chief loves his job, and would not be happy as a house pet.

I read about the pups and immediately thought of you, Linda. When we visited in May you explained the working mentality of the guardian dogs and how they NEED a job. – usually outdoors. I hope those who rescued and are trying to find homes, take all of that into consideration.
