Tuesday November 19, 2019 It was wonderful to be able to open a gate and be able to get to the new 4 acres. We found an old cow skeleton and a deer carcass that has been attracting dogs. The deer has been removed, (thanks Ed) and the cow is aged enough that it’s just bones, so we’ll leave it for now. Well, Chief did claim a deer leg in one of his escapes while we were getting the gates in, so we let him keep that. I’d consider it comfort food for him, and it’s probably the sort of thing he survived on before we adopted him. I had been concerned that the welders would let Chief get out and indeed they did – twice. He did a bit of wading in the many streams over there and had fun exploring. He had a bit of a fit when I took him away from “his” deer carcass, but I couldn’t take the chance that he’d wander even farther. The fencing is only barbed wire and does not deter a determined dog. Of course he’d come back home, but we live in an area where people believe in SSS. (shoot, shovel and shut up) So I had to get him back inside the secure fencing. When he saw we brought the deer leg home for him, he was happy to stay. And he even shared it with Charlotte who wasn’t interested in leaving at all. 😁
Photo of the day: Mom, should I wake him? He’s been asleep for an hour! ~GarboChief and his treasure
